Real-Life Fairy Tale Wedding: The Little Mermaid

To all the beach lovers out there who have dreams of being under the sea, we are guessing that your favorite Disney movie growing up was The Little Mermaid!

Ariel is the perfect Disney princess to channel on your wedding day for more reasons than a beach wedding.

Just like Ariel fulfills her biggest hope of walking on land, you are taking your first steps in a new life.

Here are our ideas to transform your wedding into your own real-life Little Mermaid wedding: fish and prince included!

Seashell Bouquet

What better way to represent flowers of the ocean than natural and unique seashells.

Mix and match different shapes of seashells with some pearl branches to make a lovely sea-inspired bouquet.

Intricate designs made by the ocean and the creamy color of most seashells are a perfect complement to your wedding dress.

We found this bouquet along with other amazing ideas on user HiLLjo’s Little Mermaid wedding inspiration Pinterest board.

Let’s make things really interesting!

Bring aquatic life straight to guests’ tables with a showstopping hanging fishbowl, this one found on Opulent Items.

Accentuate your fishbowl (hanging or not) with pieces of coral, candles, and flowers around it to resemble ocean flora and seaweed.

You can even spray paint coral pieces to get the exact colors you desire!

Color Scheme

The Little Mermaid movie brings to mind colors of red like Ariel’s hair and her crustacean friend Sebastian, and blue for the color of the ocean; however these colors are a little too primary for wedding decor.

Soften up red and blue by using seafoam or teal and coral for your main elements such as linens and plateware.

We also like the sparkle of mermaid scales that can be subtley added to your nails or shoes.

Gadgets and Gizmos

Ariel has gadgets and gizmos aplenty, as well as whuzzits and whatsits galore.

Scatter these props on tables along with some antique candle holders that look like they came right out of Ariel’s grotto.

Mermaid Look

Determined to blow your friends away with how well you’ve stuck to the theme?

If you are bold enough to do it, do a bright red wig to match Ariel’s hair.

Otherwise, don’t worry we have a few tricks up our sleeve.

Style your hair in waves to mimic the traditional mermaid look and match that with a mermaid style dress which is tight from the shoulders to about the bottom of the thigh.

This style can be applied to your bridesmaids if you are in love with another look.

Finish with a starfish in hair of course!

During the reception, play songs from the movie such as “Kiss the Girl,” “Part of Your World,” and “Under the Sea.”

These can be added in with other breezy, beach inspired songs from artists like Jack Johnson, Colbie Caillat, and the Beach Boys.
