I have to start off by saying “I wish we had more time!!!!” We could have spent weeks sipping wine, driving through the valley, eating delicious food, and visiting some of the most stunning wine farms and wine estates in the world. Although it was short it was accomplished and here was our 2 day itinerary.

Day 1 - Rent a car from Cape Town and self drive. Driving gives you the flexibility of seeing and doing more than you ever could with a transfer. Being from the US this was our first time driving on the opposite side of the road so we were a bit nervous about that but once we made our way outside of Cape Town it was a relaxing drive straight to the winelands. We turned off toward Franschoek to visit the stunning farm, Babylonstoren. I read about Babylonstoren when it opened a few years back and was eager to visit during our time in South Africa. The farm was beyond stunning and so lush with gardens, vineyards, and farmland, it is quite amazing that all of this had been produced in less than 5 years. We had an amazing farm lunch in The Greenhouse. We started off with fresh beet juice, a garden juice, and a salad with everything from the farm. We followed up our lunch with a wine tasting in the wine room. We could have spent all day on the farm. There are also farmhouses you can stay at which are breathtaking. Babylonstoren is also available for weddings and events. My mind was going crazy with the possibilities.

After Babylonstoren we headed to check in to our hotel, The Clouds Estate. It was about 5pm when we arrived and as we headed toward the main dining area and pool deck we were blown away by the most stunning views. We enjoyed a sundowner on the lounges and then settled into our room. The Clouds Estate had just recently opened for dinner so we decided to stay in for the night since we had a long day of wine tasting planned for the next day.

Day 2 - We woke up to a wonderful breakfast display (included in rate) with assorted fruits, muslie and cereals, fresh juices, yogurt, smoked salmon, local cheeses, espresso and tea. In addition, there is a selection of hot items to order off the menu. A perfect start to a full day of wine tasting. We had decided last minute that we wanted to have a driver for the day so we could both drink and not worry about driving. The hotel arranged a wine tour with us within 30 minutes and in less than hour later, we were off. First off, our driver Elle of  Tour with Elle was AWESOME! Not only did she take us to some of the best wineries but she was fantastic and provided us with a plethora of information on the winelands. We managed to squeeze in 4 wineries and lunch. We visited Tokara, Delaire Graff, Thelema, and Anthonij Rupert. We got a private tour of Delaire Graff, which was amazing. After a full day of wine tasting we had dinner at Tokara, which was, delicious and conveniently located just minutes from our hotel.

Day 3 - We enjoyed the morning at our hotel and took our time to soak it all in. After check out we headed into the quaint town of Stellenbosch and walked around and had lunch before heading back to Cape Town.

Our time in the Winelands is one we could repeat over and over again. You will be seeing us again very soon.
