Here are five Venuelust-worthy venues to visit in 2016.
The dreamiest of all dream destinations, this boutique hotel is located on Italy's incomparable Amalfi Coast. From tennis and yoga alongside the stark blue waters of the Mediterranean to unbeatable service and memorable dishes at Zass, the hotel’s Michelin-star-rated restaurant, there’s not a spot in this venue where you can go wrong. Take the hotel’s famous yacht out for a day of sightseeing on the Med or spend the weekend lounging on the private beachside cove. Either way, we think this charming and impressive venue should be number one on your list of dream spots to visit in 2016.
Located on Australia’s famous Kangaroo Island, the Southern Ocean Lodge is one of the most impressive venues we’ve seen to date. With floor-to-ceiling windows, sunken lounge areas and a minimalist aesthetic, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more zen place to watch a 2016 sunset than this oh-so chic Australian oceanside lodge. We also love the juxtaposition the venue offers. While the natural surroundings are untamed, the hotel itself is as refined as they come (without feeling stuffy or unwelcoming). Five-star service and unparalleled luxury coupled with unbeatable views of the Australian wilderness secured the Southern Ocean Lodge the Number Two spot on our list of 2016 dream destinations.
Number Three on our list also happens to be an island venue (because there’s no way we could include just one). Kilindi is on the island of Zanzibar in Tanzania. It is situated amongst 35 acres of private African gardens and overlooks the unmistakable turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. The gardens are so lush that each private suite feels like its own isolated property--you’ll never catch a view of your neighbors. We also love that the architects were careful to ensure their vision of luxury didn’t clash with the property’s longstanding natural surroundings. If you’re looking to visit a venue that’s equal parts luxury and privacy, Kilindi is the spot for you.
No dream destination list would be complete without at least one castle. Number Four on our list happens to be the historic and grand Castle Leslie in Glaslough, Ireland. Built in the 1660s, we love that the venue’s enchanting architecture and storied history remain intact despite rounds of renovations. Guests are transported back in time as they enter this captivating castle. Rooms are extremely individualized (each has its own theme), allowing guests to stay at the castle multiple times without ever having the same experience twice. Our favorite aspect of Leslie is its grounds, which consist of 1,000 acres of unspoiled Irish countryside for you to walk, jog, bike or boat.
Topping off our list of dream venues to visit in 2016 is a quintessential Italian villa. Sitting pretty in the pastoral hills of Piedmont, the Villa San Lorenzo is off the beaten path as far as tourist destinations go (and we absolutely love that about it). Surrounding villages (sans swarms of tourists) feel undiscovered and oh-so Italian. Rounds of renovations throughout the years have kept this property up to date and on-par with the 21st century (WiFi, satellite television, upgraded plumbing, etc.), but the villa stills boasts a historic Italian charm you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in 2016. If you’re looking to relax with a good book, a great glass of Cab and even-better views, the Villa San Lorenzo is the spot for you.
