Do you have a taste for adventure? Last year, one of our Venuelust readers took a cruise in Alaska. We asked her to share her trip with us.
Last year, we had the pleasure of traveling in Alaska on a cruise ship. The picturesque landscapes of the 49th state were the perfect backdrop for a couples getaway. Here are the highlights of our trip...
Ketchikan is a small fishing town in southeastern Alaska. It is known as the Salmon Capital of the World. The town is surrounded by the scenic Tongass National Forest.
In Juneau, the capital of Alaska, we rode in a helicopter to the Mendenhall Glacier. Also, we used the Mount Roberts Tramway to reach the hiking trails on top of Mount Roberts.
North of Juneau, the White Pass Yukon Railroad offers trips to the top of its namesake pass in vintage railcars. The sights during the ride are ones you won't want to miss.
The last stop on our cruise was Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. The park covers roughly 5,130 square miles, most of which is designated as protected wilderness area. I've never come across such a beautiful place. While the park has a number of glaciers, the Margerie Glacier, which rises 250 feet above the waterline and stretches for more than 20 miles, is the most impressive.
Our trip to Alaska was spectacular, and the rugged landscapes made it feel like a true adventure.
