Africa Honeymoon Itinerary Guide: Planning a 2 - 3 Week Trip
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about traveling to Africa?
Let me guess, that ultimate travel bucket list item, the African Safari.
While the Safari certainly is the number one reason most people travel to Africa, there are so many other amazing things to see and do. After spending over a month traveling around and visiting the most luxurious Africa honeymoon destinations and venues, we have put together the ultimate Africa honeymoon Itinerary. Although not everyone can have a month long honeymoon, we have outlined a 2 week and 3 week itinerary.
3 Weeks (21 days) - The Best of Southern Africa
Cape Town - 7 days (4 nights in Cape Town, 3 nights in Winelands)
Johannesburg - 1 night
Kruger National Park - 4 nights
Johannesburg - 1 night
Livingstone- Victoria Falls - 3 nights
Johannesburg -1 night
Mozambique or Seychelles - 4 nights
Cape Town - SA City Tour
We spent 7 nights in the Cape Town area and we could have easily spent another week. There is so much to do and see.
Day 1 - Arrive - Camps Bay
Day 2 - Table Mountain and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
Day 3 - Muizenberg, Boulders Beach and Cape of Good Hope
Day 4 - Robben Island and VA Waterfront
Winelands - Get Tipsy
Day 5-7 - 48 hours of Wine tasting and relaxing
Johannesburg
Day 8- Fly from Cape Town to Johannesburg or if you can splurge take the luxurious Blue Train. Flights from Johannesburg to Kruger leave early in the morning so an overnight in Joburg is necessary. We recommend The Peech Hotel and Athol Place.
Kruger National Park - Wild with the Animals
Day 9-12 - We recommend experiencing 2 different lodges. Every safari camp and location within Kruger will provide you with a very different experience. Consider a Safari group like Singita or Andbeyond, which have multiple safari camps. They often offer specials to split your time between 2 of their camps. For instance you can stay 2 nights at Singita Lebombo and 2 nights at Singita Boulders in Sabi Sands. Transportation between the 2 camps is included.
Day 13- overnight in Johannesburg
Victoria Falls - Get Adventurous
Day 14 - Arrive in Victoria Falls - Sunset cruise on the Zembezi River
Day 15 - Tour of Victoria Falls, visit to Livingstone Island and canoe on Zembezi River
Day 16 - Local Market visit and local village visit
Day 17- Overnight in Johannesburg - Beaches and Relaxation
Mozambique or Seychelles
Day 18 - Flight from Mozambique or Seychelles from Johannesburg (2-3 hours)
Day 18-21- Relax on the beach, snorkel, fish, each seafood and have lots of cocktails in coconuts.
2 Weeks (14 Days) - City, Safari, Adventure or Beaches
With a 2 week itinerary we suggest either beaches or adventure. Since a flight is required to get to both destinations, it can get quite costly and take up too much time traveling if you only have 2 weeks. Here is a slightly modified itinerary for a 2 week African getaway.
Cape Town - 5 Days, 4 Nights
Day 1 - Arrive - VA Waterfront
Day 2 - Muizenberg, Boulders Beach and Cape of Good Hope
Day 3 - Table Mountain and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
Winelands
Day 4 - Wine tasting and relaxing
Johannesburg to Cape Town
Day 5 - Overnight in Johannesburg
Kruger National Park - Safari
Day 7-8 Kruger National Park
For a 3 night safari, we would suggest staying at one camp.
Day - 9 Overnight in Johannesburg
Islands or Adventure (Mozambique or Seychelles/ Victoria Falls)
Day 10-14 - Islands or Adventure
If you choose to go to Mozambique or Seychelles, we suggest 4 nights, but if you choose to go to Victoria falls, 3 nights would be sufficient and we would add another day of safari to the itinerary.
