Artistry by Danika (Sonoma based esthetician and makeup artist) is sharing a few beauty tips and tricks that will help you look and feel your best for your upcoming engagement session.

Tip #1: Hire A Pro

If it’s in your budget, I highly suggest hiring a professional makeup artist for your shoot. It’s a way to sit back, relax and be pampered before your shoot. It’s also a great way for you to use this appointment as your bridal trial...why not take care of two things at once and cross it off of your wedding to-do list?

Tip #2: Be Good To Your Brows

See a brow specialist a couple of days before your shoot for a tune-up (you won’t want to see stray hairs in your close-up shots). Plus, nicely groomed brows frame the face and open up the eyes. If you are sensitive to wax, ask the brow groomer to tweeze only.

Tip #3: Exfoliate

Use a gentle exfoliant (I love Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate Gentle) to slough away dead, dull skin. Think of your skin as a canvas, you want to have a smooth even surface before adding makeup.

Tip #4: Polish Your Pout

A genius product is Sara Happ’s Lip Scrub. It’s made for the delicate skin on the lips and will remove all of those annoying peely and flaky pieces of skin. This is especially a must for all you gals that love a bright or bold lip.

Tip #5: Plump Up Your Skin

Use a face serum with Hyaluronic Acid. This is a wonderful ingredient that quickly binds and traps moisture in the skin. Your face will look plump and alive, which will make your makeup look even prettier when it go’s on.

Tip #6: Don't Pick

Resist the urge to pick at a blemish. Picking is only going to inflame and leave a big mark on your face. We’ve all done it and it just ends up being a bigger mess than it was to begin with. Try EradiKate by Kate Somerville. It’s a little bottle full of powerful ingredients to zap that pesky zit in it’s tracks.

Tip #7: Add A Bit Of Flutter

Whether it’s a pro doing your makeup or yourself, make sure to add a few individual eyelashes for a natural, yet more glam look. Your natural lashes tend to disappear in photos. Adding just a few falsies will amp up the volume, but still look fresh and natural. Some to try are these individual lashes by Ardell.
