What a wonderful day! Today, we as a nation move one step closer to marriage equality. The Supreme Court of the United States has found the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional.
"The federal statute is invalid, for no legitimate purpose overcomes the purpose and effect to disparage and to injure those whom the State, by its marriage laws, sought to protect in personhood and dignity. . . By seeking to displace this protection and treating those persons as living in marriages less respected than others, the federal statute is in violation of the Fifth Amendment," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion this morning.
This means that the same-sex marriages that have taken place in states where same-sex marriage is "legal" can now be recognized by the federal government. Any new same sex marriages in the 12 states that allow same sex marriage and now in EWE's home state of California will also be recognized by the Federal Government!
Estate Weddings and Events is so excited for our same-sex couples whose unions we have celebrated. We can't wait for any new same sex-couples to host their weddings at any of our beautiful estates.
As a company, we welcome anyone who would like to get married as all of our Estates are same-sex friendly! Estate Weddings and Events is thrilled with this news and believes wholeheartedly that love is love and a marriage is between two people who are choosing to spend the rest of their lives with each other. Making people's dreams come true is why we got into the business of weddings.
Now a whole group of our friends, families and colleagues can have their dreams come true as well.
