A proper girls getaway involves your best friends, first and foremost. You could probably travel just about anywhere and have a great time, but sometimes you need something a bit out of the ordinary to make a vacation truly special.
Whether you’re looking for a location abroad or in the United States, you can enjoy a getaway at your own private castle! We’ve highlighted a few incredible castles that you can stay at. Have your fairytale girls getaway at one of the locations below:
Castello di Vicarello – Grosetto, Italy
Staying at the Castello di Vicarello in Grosetto will allow you to spend your time in the most relaxing ways. Cooking classes, wine tastings, horseback riding and even hunting and fishing are all available at the hotel. The spa (complete with sauna and steam room) can be a great place to end your day after exploring the little hill towns of the Tuscan countryside. On a warm day, you can take a dip in one of the two infinity pools. Yoga sessions are also available through the hotel.
The seven suites have free wifi and minibars. Several also have open fireplaces and most have a kitchenette for you to practice your Italian cooking. The suites are beautifully decorated with antique Persian rugs, original artwork, and Louis XIV style beds. On a clear day, you can even see the sea over the picturesque hillsides.
The meals that you will enjoy at Vicarello include fruits and vegetables that are grown organically on the property. They also produce their own wine and olive oil. Even the spa uses ingredients picked from the hotel’s gardens. Fresh sage, rosemary and lavender are some of the ingredients that you will get to experience firsthand at the spa.
Castle Ladyhawke – Tuckasegee, North Carolina
Castle Ladyhawke is located above the Tuckasegee River Valley, and it offers incredible views of the area. The castle was created in the style of a Scottish Border castle. It sits on 60 acres of land. The venue is typically booked for weddings and events, but there are options for staying over for a girl’s getaway weekend. There are two camps on the estate grounds, including the Fable Village and the Gypsy Camp. The Fable Village has 12 guests rooms with a medieval style. The Gypsy Camp has four “caravans” on the other side of the castle. You can also stay in the castle itself, which can accommodate 12 guests.
This is a location for someone who wants to stay at a castle, but still plan all other activities for the weekend. This location is more for the DIY traveler. If you are looking to do a lot of outdoor activities, the nature trails and state parks in Jackson County are perfect day-excursions for Ladyhawke guests. The castle is also located about an hour from Asheville, where you can make a trip to another castle-like estate, the Biltmore.
Pleasantdale Chateau – West Orange, New Jersey
This historic estate is situated on 40 acres of greenery. It was built and owned by the New York industrialist Charles Walter Nichols. Parts of the estate dates back to 1835. The architecture is timeless and has some fascinating history. The Music Room’s roof was constructed with the ceiling of a Scandinavian chapel, and the indoor pool is situated below a glass ceiling supported by mosaic pillars. Event the Fountain Room is decorated with rich Mediterranean-style tiles.
The Pleasantdale kitchen offers fantastic menu options for the foodies in your group. The Farm at Plesantdale and the Orangerie are just a couple of ways that the chateau embraces locally sourced ingredients and eco-friendly practices. Pleasantdale has been providing farm-to-table meals long before it was cool.
This location is perfect for a girls foodie getaway. Take a day trip into New York City for a show and great eats, and then head “home” to your private chateau.
Castle Leslie – Glaslough, Ireland
Castle Leslie is located about 80 minutes from Dublin or about 60 minutes from Belfast. The castle is in Glaslough, which means ‘calm or green lake.’ It is surrounded by beautiful woodlands, lakes, and stone cut buildings in the village. This beautiful hotel has four master bedrooms and 16 guest bedrooms. Each room has its own theme so you and your friends will each have their own unique sanctuary. Some rooms have balconies that overlook the equestrian center adjacent to the estate.

Local businesses include bars, restaurants, antique shops, local studios full of handcrafted art, equestrian centers and bike rental shops. You’re bound to have a fun and relaxing trip experiencing everything that the Castle and local village has to offer.
After a day on the town, enjoy a massage at the spa or have an afternoon tea or cocktail at the hotel. Your stay isn’t complete without a horseback ride around the castle grounds. Near the castle, you can also enjoy a slew of other outdoor activities including hiking, biking and kayaking.
Oheka Castle – Huntington, New York
