Ladera Resort is a stunning escape found 1,000 feet above the Caribbean Sea. Situated in the south of the old French capital of Soufriére, the resort is nestled between the island of St. Lucia's twin Piton spires while overlooking the tranquil and azure Caribbean. With open-front rooms complete with private plunge pools, panoramic view of the Pitons, and an abundance explorable wildlife nearby, Ladera Resort combines intense relaxation with bold activities. Here are some of our favorite things to do, eat, and see at Ladera Resort.
What To Do
Before arriving to the island it's important to understand the culture of Soufriere, a sleepy fishing village boasting the most unexpected attractions. We say unexpected because among the island's blithe style emerges sites that have been featured in Blockbuster Hits such as Superman II...you wouldn't expect that! But, it is true that the island is home to activities so surreal that they fit seamlessly into fiction movies!
Wander the Diamond Botanical Gardens. There's a reason these gardens have been featured in Hollywood hits! Transformed from a working plantation into a place beyond your imagination, the Botanical Gardens are a 6-acre expansive retreat from the day-to-day hassles of reality. Filled with nature and history it is a one of a kind experience in the Caribbean. Walk through the tropical flowers and vegetation, splash in the refreshing waterfall, bask in the mineral baths and end your day with a gorgeous meal prepared at the Old Mill Restaurant.
Explore Martinique. Known as the "Paris" of the Lesser Antilles, Martinique is a small island just 90-minutes away from Ladera Resort. Spend a day getting to know this interesting island with a fun day-trip entirely organized by the resort, which provides snorkeling gear, tour guide assistance, meals, and personal transport aboard the "Flying Ray".
Tip: This trip is only available on Thursdays so make sure to plan accordingly.
Go Whale and Dolphin Watching. Just off the coast of St. Lucia is one of the best places to catch the migration of the world's most unsighted wales. While sperm whales are common, you can also catch sight of humpback, pilot, Bryde's whales, and even orcas on occasion. Not to mention, this area is home to various dolphins, which you can even see riding waves at sunset!
The Ladera Resort offers whale and dolphin watching touch every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00am to 11:30am.
Soak in the Beauty of the Resort. With so many options teeming outside of the resort's grounds it's easy to forget about the beauty of the resort itself. Each suite features an open air master bedroom with stunning view of the twin Pitons and the Caribbean Sea. Private plunge pools and en suite spa services make "staying in" a luxurious experience.
