Honeymoon Registry Fund Guide

Honeymoon registries have gained a lot of traction in recent years, and for good reasons. Many couples find that they’ve already purchased all the essential items for their home and would rather fund their honeymoon than get more “stuff” to clutter their house.

Honeymoons can be incredibly expensive, but they don’t have to be with a little help! A honeymoon is the perfect time to splurge a little on luxury accommodations, fine dining, and memorable excursions. Using one of the honeymoon registry tools below, you can have your loved ones contribute to what you want most! Forget the KitchenAid, put that money towards your tropical vacation!

I’ve reviewed 5 of the top honeymoon registry websites out there today: Honeyfund, Wanderable, Honeymoon Wishes, Traveler’s Joy, and Honeymoon Pixie. I’ve broken down each by cost to create a listing, fees, how to book honeymoon travel, added perks, ease of use and overall thoughts on the service.

Here is what I discovered...

Honeyfund

Honeyfund Honeymoon Registry Fund Website

Premise

Honeyfund allows you to select different experiences for your honeymoon and assign a dollar amount to each. You can be as specific as you want, or vague. Many guests may want to contribute to something more specific, like a nice meal somewhere, tickets to a museum or experience, etc. You get to assign dollar amounts to each item, add the quantity of items desired, and more.

When a guest browses your list, they can select the item that they want to purchase for you and how many they would like to purchase. For example, a nice dinner out may cost over $100, but you can have increments of $25 to make it more accessible for any size bank account. So you can ask for 4 $25 gift certificates to this restaurant and someone can choose to buy all 4 or maybe just one! The money gets sent to you and you ultimately decide how it is spent.

Cost

Your basic Honeyfund page is free to set up. There is a paid account option, called “Honeyfund Elite.” This version is $39.99 and includes extra perks not included with the basic page, like design templates, cover photos, a photo slideshow, registry items, password protection, no advertisements, etc.

Fees

There are a few standard fees for credit and debit card transactions. The site allows you to use either WePay (US only) or PayPal. Those services do have fees, but Honeyfund does not charge any fees on top of that beyond the cost for a “Honeyfund Elite” account (if you choose the upgraded account). WePay charges 2.8% plus a 30 cent transaction fee. PayPal is generally the same, but can vary from country to country. The important thing to note is that your wedding guests will not be charged a fee when they send money to you.

Guests are also given the option of sending cash or a check directly to you with no fees at all, just the cost of a postage stamp. Or it can be delivered to you personally at your wedding or shower with their Honeyfund gift certificate.

Booking honeymoon travel

Honeyfund is very hands off from both payments and your travel arrangements. You arrange all your travel and the money you receive in your bank account goes to whatever you see fit.

Perks

While there aren’t a whole lot of perks given to you with a basic registry, the simplicity and ease of use speak for itself. The fact that is is free, secure, and low PayPal fees, make it a popular option.

Ease of Use/Overall Thoughts

This is one of the simplest tools for couples and guests. This site is the most popular honeymoon fund service out there for a reason. Yes, there are ads on the side of your registry, but it doesn't ruin the concept. You still get the money for your honeymoon, and it has low fees for the service.

Honeymoon Wishes

Honeymoonwishes (Honeymoon Registry Fund Website)

Premise

Unlike Honeyfund, the payments sent through this registry can be sent directly to the hotels or cruise line you book. So if you want your guests to contribute to your snorkeling adventure, or spa package, they are actually paying the service provider directly.

Honeymoon Wishes registry (Honeymoon Registry Fund Website)

Honeymoon Wishes also has a direct payment option. Funds can be sent directly to you bank account as often as you want. It is free (minus the fees collected – see below) with bank to bank direct deposit. Your guests can also send a check by mail directly to you for the item on your registry.

Cost

There is no cost to create a listing with Honeymoon Wishes.

Fees

Honeymoon Wishes has fees that affect both guests buying off of your registry, as well as yourselves. There is a 2.65% processing fee for every transaction as well as a 7% service fee, which will either be charged to the guest purchasing off your honeymoon registry, or it can be deducted from your gift amount. Consider this the Ticketmaster of Honeymoon funds as these processing fees go right back into customer service, site maintenance, security, etc.

Booking Honeymoon Travel

Since Honeymoon Wishes has a partnership directly with your travel partners, this can simplify your travel a bit by giving you some optional ideas. While they don’t book your travel arrangements for you, they will notify you when your gift has been purchased with the proper instructions on how to book that excursion, dinner reservation, etc.

If you don’t know where you are traveling to just yet, you can select that you are “undecided” or “It’s a surprise” if you choose to keep it secret.

Perks

Each registry comes with a wedding website, blog, email wizard, photo album to share with guests, “Thank You” gift tracker, and downloadable announcement cards. These amenities would be under a paid account with Honeyfund.

Ease of Use/Overall Thoughts

Honeymoon wishes wedding website (Honeymoon Registry Fund Website)

The design and layout of the wedding website that goes along with your registry is very primitive and unappealing. You are better off just using this for the honeymoon registry and host your wedding website elsewhere where you have more freedom and control over the result.

If your guests are having any trouble using the site, they do have a toll free number where someone can assist you, which is nice for those guests that aren’t internet saavy.

Wanderable

Wanderable (Honeymoon Registry Fund Website)

Premise

Wanderable allows you to select honeymoon registry items from a list or input your own. Their curated list of activities include local merchants that are highly rated on Yelp or TripAdvisor. You can choose to have a combination of both curated registry options and ones that you create yourself.

Funds from the gifts purchased through Wanderable are available in your account to withdraw as cash through either direct deposit or check. Gifts purchased through PayPal will be deposited into your PayPal account. You can email Wanderable to change your payment method to PayPal from their own system, but the transaction fee will be slightly higher.

Cost

There is no cost to create a listing with Wanderable. All designs and layouts are free and your guests will not see any advertisements on your registry page.

Fees

Each credit card transaction has a processing fee of 2.5% which is charged to your guest or you can choose to absorb this fee yourself. If you book a package with one of Wanderable’s partners there is no service fee, otherwise, there is an additional 2.5% to purchase one of the items you added yourself. If you purchase one of the curated packages, the credit card fee is lower than PayPal’s fee (which Honeyfund uses). On the other hand if a guest chooses a package that you created they may be charged 5% fees for that item.

Cash or check gifts that are sent directly to you, and are not subject to fees.

Booking honeymoon travel

Wanderable does not book your travel arrangements for you. When a gift is purchased through your registry, you are notified via email about how to book the experience.

Perks

The corresponding App, gift-wrapping options, thank you postcards, modern layouts, and no service fees for curated registry ideas are just some of the benefits of using Wanderable.

Ease of Use/Overall Thoughts

This site offers contemporary design and is very easy to use. Couples will appreciate the different style options for their registry and the added perks that they include with their service.

Traveler’s Joy

Travelers joy (Honeymoon Registry Fund Website)

Premise

Like the other registries, at Traveler’s Joy you add registry items for your honeymoon and guests purchase these from your registry page. You will have access to a library of over 100,000 images to use, Google maps integration to let your guests know where you are traveling to, slideshows, themes, and more.

Travelers joy sample registry (Honeymoon Registry Fund Website)

Cost

It is free to create an account on Traveler’s Joy. There are no upgrade fees, so all registries will have access to all the premium features on the site.

Fees

Cash or check gifts that are sent or given to you at your wedding are of course not going to have any fees taken out. If you do use a credit card for the transaction, you are charged 2.95% which is taken from the gift amount. The guest is also charged 2.95% as well as a 99 cent transaction fee. This covers the cost of the credit card processing fee, hosting your page, design/content, customer service, etc.

You do have the option to have all fees paid by the gift giver or yourself. If you choose to have the 5.9% deducted from your end, the guest is only charged the 99 cent transaction fee.

Booking honeymoon travel

You book all your own travel for your honeymoon from the funds collected through Traveler’s Joy.

Perks

While there aren’t a lot of bells and whistles on the site, Traveler’s Joy has some reputable partners including The Knot and WeddingWire that make it a well-trusted and utilized registry service. The map on the registry page is a nice touch, and while it isn't the most eye-catching style, it isn't the worst of the bunch.

The option to absorb the service fees for your guests is a really nice touch (leaving guests solely with the low cost transaction fee). You can also split it evenly between you and your guest, unlike Honeymoon Wishes that charges either one or the other.

Ease of Use/Overall Thoughts

The site isn’t great looking, but it is functional. I like that they don’t charge any upgrade fees for premium listings like Honeyfund.

Honeymoon Pixie

Honeymoon Pixies (Honeymoon Registry Fund Website)

Premise

Honeymoon Pixie is very similar to the other registries, namely Traveler’s Joy. You add your registry items and are offered additional features like custom designs, announcement cards, gift tracking, thank-you lists, travel advice, destination guides, integration with both Facebook and Google Maps, etc.

Cost

As with the other registries, there are no set-up fees. There are also no upgrade fees as everything is already included with your registry.

Fees

Honeymoon Pixie collects a 7% fee for all transactions. This is charged to the guest by default, which means that you would receive 100% of your gift money. You also have the option to have the fee subtracted from your funds when you collect them. Honeymoon Pixie prides themselves in not selling ad space on your registry or selling your information to other vendors, hence the higher fee for transactions.

One thing to note is that you are charged a fee for bank to bank transfers ($10), international bank wire transfers ($30), but if you choose PayPal or USPS you will not be charged.

Booking honeymoon travel

Like most other honeymoon registry services, Honeymoon Pixie is hands off in the booking process for your honeymoon activities. They will notify you when a gift has been purchased off your list, but it is up to you to book the service.

Perks

Honeymoon Pixies (Honeymoon Registry Fund Website)

Once again, there aren’t a lot of added perks, but it is a simple design and registry to use. You would still want to create a wedding website with additional information regarding your wedding details. Your honeymoon registry will be deleted after two years, which can be a nice feature so your information doesn’t live on the web for all of eternity.

Ease of Use/Overall Thoughts

Simple to use, but high fees, and not a great enough design to make it worth it for me.

In Conclusion…

There are a number of honeymoon registry website out there to choose from, but not many that check all the boxes. From the ones reviewed above, my personal favorite is Wanderable. Their designs alone won me over. There are no upgraded fees for a better listing, and the service and transaction fees are manageable. Honeyfund is a close second, simply because the fees are the lowest out of all these options (if you have a basic account), but you would have to shell out the extra money to have more design options and additional perks that are already included in Wanderable’s free account.

Don’t forget there are other ways to get cash to go towards your honeymoon! Other sites like GoFundMe allow you to raise money for all types of things. Use the description area of your page to itemize which activities you are planning to take part in, so guests know what they are contributing to.

How did you decide which honeymoon registry was right for you?
