Maldives, Not Just For Honeymooners Anymore
Oh the Maldives.... With your over water bungalows, glass bottom floors, clearest of waters, freshest of seafood, and romantic vibes, you have certainly gained a place on the top destinations for honeymooners around the globe.
It's no surprise that for years the Maldives have been the number one pick for many as the ultimate honeymoon destination and it can't be denied that it really is the ideal setting for newlyweds and anyone wanting a romantic getaway.
Our first visit to the Maldives was 5 years ago and although we were not married at the time, we certainly chose the Maldives for a romantic, relaxing getaway. We spent 10 days on 2 island resorts and every guest on both islands that we met were on a honeymoon or celebrating an anniversary.
What a difference 5 years has made on this country of island resorts. The Maldives is now not only reserved for honeymooners, it has become a destination for all sorts of celebrations. Why not hit the islands with your girlfriends for a bachelorette weekend, or a 50th birthday celebration with your closest family and friends or perhaps an intimate wedding with a complete island takeover?
Many island resorts are capitalizing on group celebrations and offering more than just a romantic beach dinner for two. Some new facilities include outdoor movie theaters, wine rooms reserved for private parties, multiple dining options, private villas for larger groups and much, much more.
Activities are no longer just water sports and laying on the beach or in a hammock.
Gili Lankanfushi in the Male Atoll, offers activities around the culinary experience like cooking classes, sushi making classes, wine and chocolate tastings and craft cocktail demos.
Amilla Fushi in the Baa Atoll offers a healthy abundance of activities including a spa treatment every day with your stay and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
How about an outdoor movie theater on the sand with bean bag chairs and swanky lounge furniture with a craft list of signature martinis? Or a wine and cheese room available for group tasting parties for 20 of your closest friends? What about a dinner in your own island home with 15 of your friends? All of these options are becoming available throughout the islands.
For the private treehouse homes on the island of Amilla Fushi, The Emperors Store offers a place where guests can go shopping to grab snacks and groceries, so they can truly have an at home experience and dine in if they choose too. You can even stock up on wine and cheese in the wine tasting room to have your own private tasting party in your island home.
The owners of Amilla Fushi are taking it one step further and are set to open the newest island resort in late 2015, Finolhu Baa Atoll Maldives. Which is rumored to be the “Nikki Beach” of Maldives. Stay tuned for more information on this hot spot in late 2015 to early 2016.
So its time to pack your bags and hit the islands with your besties!!
