While I love New York, she's a tough city sometimes. She likes to yell for no apparent reason and during the summer she'll cry all day in a hot rage. But, we're working on our relationship. In fact, everything has gotten better once we've decided to have some alone time. During the weekends, she sends me off with a kiss and Monday morning I find her better than ever.
If you're anything like me, I think you could also benefit from some time apart from our beloved city. Here are some fabulous places where you can get away and finally enjoy some well deserved alone time. We won't charge you for the relationship counseling!
Hudson Valley's Riverbank Historic Estate
This is one part of the Hudson you've never seen in the city! Surrounded by stunning pines and nestled in between rolling hills, the river takes center stage in the serene Hudson Valley. This is a fantastic place to get away to if you enjoy hiking, fresh air, apple picking, and watching your kids run after fireflies in the summertime. Although it may seem rustic, the estate is nothing but luxurious. With its northeastern charm, you don't have to abandon the city's polish to enjoy the great outdoors.
The estate offers five bedrooms and three baths making it able to accommodate up to 10 people.
There really is magic in the Hudson Valley. Wake up every morning to breakfast on the patio overlooking the majestic blue river and rolling hills painting the scene on the other side of the riverbank. At night, curl up by Riverbank Estate’s huge wood burning fireplace.
I understand ultimate tranquility is probably every New Yorker's worst nightmare, don't worry, this is not a place where you'll hear crickets all day long. It's easy to stay entertained with the estate's heating swimming pool, access to water sports on the river, s'mores-perfect wood burning fire pits, and its close proximity to Storm King Art Center, Dia Museum, West Point Theater and Woodbury Commons shopping. Not to mention, just enjoying the New England splendor of the estate might keep you content doing absolutely nothing!
The Hamptons' Sag Harbor Estate
For the ultimate summer fun alongside New York locals, head to the Hamptons! It goes without saying that this is one of the best places to get away. With its quaint shops, country roads, and tranquil sea, it is the ultimate NYC summer destination for a reason. The Sag Harbor Estate is one of the premier places to stay because of its Hamptons' luxury and charm plus its prime location complete with a private beach. This elegant 6000 square foot home features finest quality craftsmanship located in the prestigious West Banks of North Haven.
Everything about this estate is pure quality. Overall, the estate can accommodate up to 14 people with its 7 bedrooms and 5 baths.
Finally, your resort-like stay is completed with full access to private tennis courts, exclusive beach access, a deep-water dock, and a guard house at the entrance of the private community.
Vermont's Hewitt Hill Farm
You've probably never thought of Vermont as a cool weekend destination but more and more New Yorkers are hitting the Green Mountain State to hone in on their hiking skills and get in touch with nature. By staying at Hewitt Hill Farm you can do all that without sacrificing the comforts of vacation. Hewitt Hill Farm is a sweet old-fashioned home with a luxury twist. Fully rebuilt in 2008, Hewitt Hill Farm offers all the modern-day conveniences with the simple charms of a classic New England farm.
This stunning estate has room for up to 28 guests and offers a chef’s kitchen and a dining room that is custom-designed to accommodate large groups with ease. With 11 bedrooms and four fireplaces, this is the perfect place to plan a weekend getaway with your extended family or just a big group of friends.
Take your mind off the city stresses with some nice indoor and outdoor activities. Inside, the estate offers two tv’s, a ping pong table, and a shuffleboard table. Outside, you can enjoy a private pond, tennis and basketball courts, and an outdoor pool. Plus, because of its close location to Woodstock you can explore Simon Pearce, the Woodstock Inn, Billings Farm and Museum and Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Park.
Revamp your relationship with New York, and take some much needed alone time. I promise, she'll still be there kicking and screaming and kissing and loving when you get back!
