Though we’re regular globetrotters, we have to admit that few places on Earth are as beautiful as the United States’ Northwest. From the rustic charm of Montana to the romantic forests of Oregon, we’re all about towering trees, snow-capped mountains, and big, blue skies.
We especially love the juxtaposition of a refined affair against an untamed landscape—which is why weddings in the West are among our favorite soirees of all. Today then, we wanted to break down for you two venues that do countryside luxury like no other. So, bust out your finest cowboy boots and get ready to dive into the five-star world of the Great American West.
Brasada Ranch: Bend, Oregon
One of our all-time favorite PNW venues, the Brasada Ranch in Bend, Oregon does not disappoint when it comes to both luxurious amenities and a classic Western aesthetic. A destination resort set on 1,800 acres in the Cascade Mountains, you’d be hard-pressed to find a single spot on the entire ranch that doesn’t offer a breathtaking view of the storied landscape that surrounds it. The space offers eight wedding venues to choose from, each offering its own brand of Oregonian character.
The Barn is a perfect spot for those looking for that quintessential Western charm. It holds up to 140 guests and boasts an expansive grass terrace and surrounding patios, so guests aren't confined to the interior of the barn for the entire event.
Host your ceremony inside, alongside the dramatic floor-to-ceiling fireplace, and plan for cocktails on the lawn. The interior of the barn can then be transformed to a dancefloor and dinner space for your indoor/outdoor reception. Insider’s tip: pepper in some late-night fun with s’mores over the property’s renowned fire-pit.
Another favorite ceremony spot of ours is the Trestle Bridge. Made from reclaimed wood from the ranch’s original aqueduct, it’s the perfect spot for watching the sunset over the Cascades in a setting that feels oh-so Oregonian.
The bridge, though narrow, is wide enough to place farm tables for a reception and can comfortably seat up to 200 guests for dinner. Or, if you’re looking to host your reception in an area that offers more space for dancing but don’t want to miss out on the photographic opportunities this unique venue offers, we recommend hosting a quick cocktail hour on the bridge. With panoramic views of the entire 1,800-square-foot property, the bridge offers a sight like no other on the entire ranch.
An expansive property with numerous accommodation options, Brasada Ranch makes for a perfect destination wedding spot, as your guests can enjoy luxurious overnight amenities without ever having to leave the ranch. We recommend booking a few of their luxury cabins for groups of guests traveling together and guest rooms for those flying solo.
For your wedding party, we recommend booking the adult-only suites for some serious fun before the big day. Brasada also boasts a luxury spa, perfect for pampering yourself (and your favorite guests) during your stay. We recommend an aromatherapy fusion massage paired with a wild lime scalp treatment, to help relax your body and awaken your senses at once.
The Ranch at Rock Creek: Philipsburg, Montana
Nestled in one of Montana’s most picturesque valleys, The Ranch at Rock Creek offers both five-star luxury and classic Western charm in a storied setting. With Philipsburg being the only town within 50 miles of the ranch, Rock Creek truly is a world in and of itself. This secluded spot offers true storybook views of settings that can only be described as Great American West.
With four main accommodation options, the Ranch at Rock Creek is perfect for a destination wedding, where guests from all over the world can convene for a weekend of fun festivities leading up to the big day.
The Granite Lodge, the ranch’s true centerpiece, is home to nine suites that range from 315-397 square feet. Rooms are decorated in the finest of textiles and custom-made furniture, and each boasts its own unique nod to Western history. Our favorite, perhaps, is the Palomino room, which boasts a king canopy bed custom made from reclaimed birchwood.
The Glamping Cabins are perfect for guests traveling in small groups who want a true Montana experience (without sacrificing luxury). Typical occupancy ranges from two guests in the Classic Canvas Cabin (of which there are four on property) to a max of six guests in the Family Canvas Cabins.
Keep in mind, though, the Family Canvas and Classic Canvas Cabins are closed during the colder months. If you’re hosting a winter affair, you’ll want to steer your glamping guests to the Trapper Cabin (the property’s most secluded cabin) or the Sweet Grass Cabin, both of which are open year round.
The Ranch also boasts seven luxury home sites, which we recommend booking for close family, friends, and your wedding party. Frequently booked as a bridal suite, Bluebird is a 950-square-foot property that can house up to three guests. With a king canopy bed, a cedar sauna and heated screen porch, Bluebird is a space both grand and charming (and one that’s absolutely perfect for pampering). Its airy aesthetic manages to fall somewhere between a luxury spa and charming cabin, and we can’t get enough of it.
Larger than Bluebird (but just as luxurious), Eagle’s Perch boasts 2,342 square feet (and holds a maximum of six guests), making it a perfect pad for a group of groomsmen or a large family traveling together. A two-story luxury log cabin featuring storied woven textiles and classic Western design elements, few places on the ranch feel more true to the Montana aesthetic than this historic property. (Eagle’s Perch can also be booked in conjunction with nearby homes for large groups looking to remain in close proximity).
For the wedding itself, we recommend booking, at least, three days on the property and peppering each with its own brand of unique celebratory affairs. We especially love the ease of wedding planning the venue offers—The Ranch at Rock Creek offers a fully customizable, all-inclusive package for up to 125 guests. The rate includes custom accommodations, gourmet meals, premium wine, beer and spirits and twice-daily on-ranch activities (like hot tub dips, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking).
Overall, few places are more poised to host a Great American West wedding full of grandeur, luxury and a little bit of country charm than Brasada Ranch and the Ranch at Rock Creek. From meandering rivers to glassy lakes to soaring peaks, your affair won’t need much help to bring either of these settings to life.
