When two rocket scientists get married, they need a wedding venue that takes off with their vision. For Johannah and Nick, both involved in the aerospace industry, Lairmont Manor in Bellingham, Washington provided the two with such a setting. The Italian Renaissance style mansion not only sits on the National Registry of Historical Sites but it also invites couples into that history for their wedding days.
Designed by Seattle architect Carl Gould for his client Charles Larrabee, the historic home has seen over 3,000 couples get married on its watch over the last 30 years. The venue allowed Johannah and Nick to blast off into married life on a decidedly classic note.
Johannah and Nick chose Lairmont Manor in Bellingham, Washington for their wedding location. Located in the heart of Bellingham’s historic Fairhaven district, the manor home sits just 80 miles from Seattle and 51 miles from Vancouver. Due to its central location, it allows couples like Johannah and Nick the have their wedding at a destination away from major cities but still within reach for guests to easily reach. In this couple’s case, Bellingham was ideal as both the bride and groom had a great deal of family in the area.
The couple selected Lairmont Manor as it presented a relaxed and elegant setting. And with such a grand location, the couple could use the historic manor as the centerpiece for their big day. Bellingham itself is home to many historic houses and perches right in a Northwest wilderness area.
For Johannah and Nick’s ceremony, the couple invited their guests to gather around an intimate space at Lairmont Manor. The Grand Hall is generally used for ceremonies at the wedding venue location. The space allotted the couple a stunning backdrop to marry with its vaulted ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, original wood paneling and even wrought iron details. In addition to being a fine ceremony location, the Grand Hall at Lairmont Manor can also be one of the best spot for a bride to toss her bouquet. The space features a viewing balcony practically built for this purpose.
Johannah and Nick toasted their guests and their new marriage on the grounds of Lairmont Manor. As part of the wedding services at Lairmont, couples can use the on-site tent throughout the warmer months of the year. Johannah and Nick had their wedding meal in the white tent just outside the manor gardens. Lairmont Manor boasts award-winning gardens with a variety of seasonal plants and flowers along with a courtyard and pavilion. The couple welcomed their guests back inside Lairmont Manor for the dancing portion of the reception.
Style and Décor
As Johannah and Nick are both rocket scientists, they made sure to incorporate rocket details into their big day style along with a sign posting of different destinations they’ve experienced together. The tables were in keeping with the style of Lairmont Manor with simple clear glass vases holding bouquets of flowers along with classic font numbers indicating which table was which. Johannah and Nick also maintained a classic send off by handing out sparklers to their guests to light as they headed out for their honeymoon.

The bridesmaids wore a similar yet shorter silhouetted dresses in a rich midnight blue hue. The groom and the groomsmen adorned fitted gray suites with champagne colored ties. Nick stood out from the rest of the groomsmen by wearing a vest with his suit. The flowers had a bit of pizazz with light blue and orange hues, carried by all of the bridesmaids and the bride.
