It seems like most weddings these days are vintage, vintage, vintage. Perhaps it's the romantic in us that has us so fascinated with the past, but what's trending now? Will our generation just be remembered for the videos on our iEverythings and our beloved hashtags? Thankfully, today's wedding trends tell us 2013 has a style all its own!
Today's weddings have really moved away from the lavish and gaudy decor of the past. We've opted for more minimal and meaningful decorations at weddings. Think quirky invitations, charming backyard weddings, and eco-friendly everything. But while we're opting for simplicity, it doesn't mean we can't have a little fun! Prints and patterns are the perfect way to add an artistic flare to simple designs. Polka dots, gingham, paisley, chevron stripes, are floral prints are up and coming in the fashion world-- we predict they're about to take over weddings!
Along with the transition to prints, comes the shift to fab! We've seen a lot of shabby chic and boho-inspired weddings in 2012. These styles really embraced the year's love of all-things-organic and the nation's DIY attitude. However, we suspect a return to elegance and decadence in the coming years. Instead of weddings resembling the interior of Anthropology, we're thinking Gatsby and Anna Karenina might try their hand at weddings. A more refined look will take off, simply because of its originality- it seems like everyone's going rustic these days! The trend clock might be ticking for boho and shabby chic weddings.
Boys, boys, boys! We like boys involved! As husband and wife roles are shifting (my shameless plug for women's equality), we suspect this change to influence wedding planning. As grooms have started getting more involved in wedding decisions, we've seen the emergence of the "Reception Lounge" trend. The Man Registry says men love the idea of a space away from the dance floor where friends can chat in a more relaxed environment. Plus, these lounges can feature a microbrew or signature drink. This is a great place to create and serve your very own "love potion."
Finally, we see brides and grooms becoming a bit more adventurous with their wedding venues. After all, weddings are once-in-a-lifetime events! Instead of the traditional chapel or hotel, backyard and home weddings are really making a splash. The modern bride and groom want everything unique and personalized to their own tastes and personalities--having weddings at an estate allow for flexibility and personalization. Plus, you don't have to wed side-by-side vacationers sunbathing at a hotel or rush out of the chapel for a coming service. Estate weddings are definitely in...and we're not just saying that!
