While traveling around the French wine country I couldn't help but wish for the same type of place closer to my home in Southern California. I kept wondering why I couldn't enjoy tranquil landscapes and world-class wine without crossing the Atlantic. After we recently acquired new estates in Valle de Guadalupe, all my questions were answered. It turns out, the unknown village of Valle de Guadalupe is undoubtedly the Mexican equivalent of Provence or Champagne in France.
This Mexican wine country has been producing the best wine in Mexico for years but is currently becoming popular and chic as more and more people are discovering the hidden gem. Just like everyone else who discovers Valle de Guadalupe, I couldn't help but imagine fabulous farm-to-table wedding weekends or even yoga retreats in the wine country. So I decided to make a list of the best places to host your next wine-country affair in Valle de Guadalupe.
Eco Villa | Encuentro Guadalupe
This Eco Villa captures the feel of Valle de Guadalupe perfectly. It is modern yet rustic, and definitely off the beaten path! The cool glass walls showcase views of the seemingly endless valley of Valle de Guadalupe. Because of this, the estate masters the connection between indoor and outdoor space, creating sweet synergy.
One of my biggest concerns about the estate was its exclusiveness. Don't get me wrong, I love the feeling of privacy; however, I was a bit unnerved at the idea of being completely alone in a valley. I was pleasantly pleased to discover that the estate is actually a part of the exceptional Encuentro Guadalupe resort, and what's more, there is even access to the resort's pools and restaurants. Plus, you can even commission one of the resort's private chefs, or masseuses to the private villa!
While I love the idea of being connected to an award-winning resort, the best part about the Eco Villa is the ability to entertain guests in my own private and posh space. The estate has 3 bedrooms and 2 eco Loft Villas, and can accommodate up to 50 guests for a seated dinner. Cooking classes, wine tasting dinners, and even a private farm to dinner table with Executive Chef Flor Franco, are all available at the villa.
The Eco Villa in Encuentro Guadalupe is the best place to experience local wines, savor farm-to-table meals, and entertain guests in a stunning space.
Luxury should be more than going to the Ritz for high tea. Rather it should be about having a unique experience, which regenerates the mind and body. The Encuentro Guadalupe estate embodies this experience and invites guests to truly immerse themselves with the nature, culture, and history of the Valle de Guadalupe while still enjoying resort comforts. The Encuentro Guadalupe has earned its place at the top among food and wine critics because of its authentic nature and unique construction.
This architectural gem consists of 20 luxury eco pods, which are positioned on a hillside in order to create unobstructed valley views from each individual cabin. Because engaging with natural surroundings is the main focus of the estate, each eco pod has its own fireplace and private deck. Plus, there are no televisions to ruin the tranquility of the valley (although internet is provided in case of any emergencies).
This interaction with nature even carries over to food and wine. Encuentro practices farm to table dining and all the ingredients are always fresh and local. With its 11 acres of vineyards, the property produces some of the best Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Blanc, and Nebiolo in Mexico.
Encuentro is more than an estate venue, it is an experience. It is an ideal place to host a corporate getaway or yoga retreat.
There really is nothing like the Cuatrocuatros Estate. In fact, this is such a rare and unique place that I struggle to even call it an "estate". The pseudo-campground among refined vineyards features cabanas that are a cross between hotel suites and luxury safari tents. Each cabana has a fireplace, mini-bar, oversized bed, and even en suite bathroom. Think "glamping" but even better! The cabanas are also elevated and fronted by a private terrace so that guests can enjoy vineyard views and have a comfortable place to relax outside.
Unlike our other estates in Valle de Guadalupe, Cuatrocuatros is close to the ocean and enjoys a pleasant microclimate created by desert and ocean air. This climate allows for a unique cultivation of the vineyard's grapes, which results in a one-of-a-kind wine production. You can enjoy this special blend while watching the sunset over the vineyards from your private terrace.
The ever-present vineyards are certainly a highlight, but the land and ocean waters around Cuatrocuatros are teeming with possibilities. Guests have access to the estate’s yacht for cruises amongst the whales that migrate offshore.
Also on the agenda: SCUBA diving trips, a desert safari, and excursions to the nearby culture-rich small towns in the area. After a day experiencing the adventures of Baja, you can return to Cuatrocuatros for rejuvenating spa treatments in the onsite relaxation centre.
This estate lends itself well to hosting corporate events, weddings, retreats, and even family reunions. The usually serene village of Cuatrocuatros transforms itself into a nighttime wonderland illuminated by candles and streaming lights as a live band fills the air with song and excitement. The on-site staff is always prepared to create masterful meals and group lunches either al fresco or under elegant shaded cabanas.
The Villa de Valle estate is a colorful oasis in the company of a beautiful desert. The owners of this property have created their dream place to relax and unwind complete with a fun labyrinth, olive trees, fruit orchards, and even rows of lavender. This estate is different from all the others because it was create for the sole purpose of providing a tranquil escape for all its guests. Among the modern boutique style, there maintains a whimsical air found in surprising colorful details decorating the property.
This is one of the most "event suitable" estates in Valle de Guadalupe because of all the different areas it offers for photo shoots, ceremonies, and large group dinners. Plus, it can accommodate large groups in it's six rooms, which each have their own unique design, furnishings, and decor. It's picturesque sunsets make the perfect backdrop for evening celebrations and I can't help but imagine the most stunning wedding pictures among fruit orchards and rows of lavender!
The Villa de Valle estate is all about the details. For example, each bathroom is stocked with craft-made bath and beauty products that are produced onsite using local oils. The feeling of being cared for begins as soon as you step onto the property as the staff offers freshly made Mexican cookies and a basket of fresh fruit upon arrival. Plus, because the estate is nestled among a working vineyard and bountiful orchards, all the details that go into creating this dreamlike estate are fresh and local.
It is true that a wine country as good as those in France is much closer to home that I thought. Finding Valle de Guadalupe is like finding a hidden gem on the west coast brimming with eco luxury and stunning design!
