About La Banane

La Banane sits on the glamorous francophone Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy (more commonly known as Saint Barts). This retro-chic nine-suite boutique hotel and rental villa has a very interesting past. It was a favorite vacation destination for Paris-based celebrities during the 1950s and 1960s. The current owners have restored the property in recent years. However, their renovations were faithful to the sense of coolness and glamour that the Saint Barts boutique hotel had when it first opened its doors in the '50s. The bedrooms feature four-poster king-size beds, which are draped with linens. Ceiling fans cool the airy, white-on-white rooms. Antiques and retro collectables decorate the walls, and comfortable but stylish period furniture also lends itself to the uniquely classic atmosphere. At the same time, there are modern amenities at La Banane that are tastefully placed so as to not contrast the artfully-created retro vibe. Guests can enjoy flat-screen televisions, wifi, iPod docking stations and in-room air-conditioning. The highlight for some will be the open-air bathrooms, which are equipped with rainfall showers and stocked with designer spa products and toiletries. Each of the nine rooms offers direct access to the pool area. Actually, it is not quite correct to refer to this outdoor living space as merely a pool. There are plenty of seating areas, including a covered “living room,” a bar, and a long teakwood dining table where guests can socialize and eat. A state-of-the-art home cinema, complete with plasma screen TV and air conditioning, offers another entertainment option to guests. The location of La Banane is nearly perfect. It is only a few footsteps from the sugar-white sands of Lorient Beach, one of the most celebrated seaside spaces on Saint Barts. Restaurants and shopping boutiques are located within a two minute stroll of the Banane’s front entrance. The villa’s concierge can aid guests with everything from grocery shopping and car rental to reservation for scuba diving courses or other water sports experiences. What to do Take a dip in the pool or stroll down to Lorient Beach for some swimming and sunning. Savor a meal on the teakwood table in the open air living space. Soak in the attractively retro atmosphere. The design and decor bring to mind the glory days of the Parisian celebrities who used to flock to La Banane.

What we love

The central pool area and outdoor “living room.”

The retro-chic decor. You won’t find another place on Saint Barts with more personality than La Banane.

The location: the beach and several restaurants are a short stroll away
