About Maison d’Ulysse

Once home to French literary luminary Ulysse Dumas, Maison d’Ulysse is an historic estate in the beautiful region between the timeless towns of Avignon and Nimes. The sea and the region’s numerous inland attractions are all within a short distance of the stone walls of the Maison. This unique and tranquil estate began its life in the 17th century as a fortified farmhouse. The original ambiance has been lovingly preserved, while the interiors have been restored over the years to give guests a strong sense of luxury. The property is listed by the prestigious Fondation du Patrimoine, an organization that seeks to preserve France’s most important histroic buildings. Wildflower gardens run right up to the spacious pool and patio area, while oak, fig and mulberry trees shade the area’s landscapes. This truly is one of the most naturally beautiful regions in France. In all, there are nine rooms to choose from at Maison d’Ulysee. All accommodations come with air conditioning, en suite bath and wireless internet. Each room and suite is completely unique. The spacious Mûrier Suite, for example, has a private terrace and designer bathroom as well as a spacious lounge area. The Belle du Seigneur Suite, meanwhile, boasts 60 square meters of space, a bedroom with an arched ceiling and a romantic fireplace. The past is ever-present at Maison d’Ulysse. The original cement tiles still cover the floor of the history-rich Fleur Dumas Suite, while the whitewashed limestone walls of the Room Heureux qui comme Ulysse have a timeless appeal. The large Apartment Petit Prince, which has a retro 1950s atmosphere, is an accommodation option that offers additional space and a kitchenette. In addition to the swimming pool and the sleek patio area that sits beside it, this estate boasts a Turkish bath, massage services and wild gardens. Local specialities, including jams made from the onsite orchard’s fruits, are served for breakfast each morning. Table d'hôtes lunches and three-course dinners are available upon request. The nearby market towns have additional eating and drinking options. These historic population centers include Uzès, Pont du Gard, Avignon, Nimes, and Arles.
