About The Observatory

This amazing estate is part of the 12,000 acre Leobo Private Reserve in the remote Waterberg region of northern South Africa. The Observatory is an architectural masterpiece. Its designers combined traditional African design elements with classic safari lodge details and modern luxuries to create an airy and utterly unique living space that provides both excitement and comfort. The Observatory can serve as a luxury safari lodge for families, though it is equally capable of providing a romantic setting for a vacationing or honeymooning couple. Guests enjoy the attentive services of a private butler, a maid, and a personal chef. The estate's two suite-like bedrooms have en suite showers and baths, while the impressive master bedroom has a private outdoor shower to go along with its classic four post bed and romance-inspiring decor. The deck and heated infinity pool sit overlooking the Private Reserve's scenic Palala Valley. Cushioned lounge-chairs provide the perfect vantage point for enjoying the beautiful view, while the outdoor fireplace is the ideal location to watch the stars in the evening. The open-air common area features a fireplace, dining table, entertainment options, and a mixture of modern and traditional furnishings. Thanks to the African decor and furnishings, there is no mistaking where in the world you are (and there is also no mistaking the level of comfort that you will feel during your time at the Observatory). The rooftop "sunset deck" boasts comfortable seating, romantic lighting, and panoramic views of the valley below and the starry evening sky above. The Observatory gets in name from a fully automated telescope. Guests can even book an astronomer to lead them on a tour of the universe. Even if you don't want to gaze through the telescope, you can enjoy the selection of books that are located in the library in the observatory tower. What to do Watch the stars through the Observatory's telescope or from a comfortable lounge chair on the rooftop sunset deck Enjoy a game-viewing safari on horseback or from the passenger seat of a Land Cruiser Partake in a specially-made meal on the deck after taking a dip in the heated infinity pool

What we love

The perfectly balanced mixture of traditional African design elements and comfortable modern furnishings

The fact that the beautiful landscapes of the Private Reserve are visible from so many places all around the property. No matter where you are, all you have to do is open your eyes to enjoy breathtaking views.

An airy design that brings to mind the classic luxury safaris that were popular in past eras
